Homosexual identity formation is a potentially tumultous process that begins in childhood & extends through adulthood. The adolescent’s experiences may ultimately contribute to a variety of physical & mental health problems, including self-destructive behaviours. The sociological, psychological, & medical issues are considered in this article. Guidelines for the care of homosexual youth are proposed. (38 refs.)
