A Survey of Prevention Activities in Mental Health in the Canadian Provinces and Territories

The purpose of this research was to obtain an initial profile of the state of prevention in Canada. Informants from departments of mental health, health promotion, education & women’s directorates were sent a survey. Findings are analyzed in terms of policies, budgets, personnel & programs. A summary of trends across Canada is provided. While many innovative projects were reported, in general it was found that very few resources are devoted to the prevention of psychosocial disorders.
