This chapter describes some of the reasons why it is important to work with the family when there has been a suicide or a suicide attempt. Some of the reactions that family members may experience following a suicide are discussed. Different approaches to family therapy are examined & guidelines for family assessment & treatment are identified. This chapter is meant to help community workers understand the normal stages of grief & bereavement & to recognize when family therapy may be beneficial.
