This article describes the mental health care model for New York prisons. The system’s goals include providing a wide array of services, & for the service to extend as far as possible into the prison community, not only on an inpatient basis. Concerns for they system include segregated inmates & the inability to provide long-term care for inmates with severe mental illness.
