A questionnaire which included the Adolescent Alcohol Involvement Scale, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale & the Beck Depression Inventory was administered to 140 high school students & 86 college students. In both high school & college students under 21 years of age, alcohol use & misuse was positively associated with depression, as expected, & with self-esteem, opposite to what was expected. Alcohol use & misuse were found to be associated with depression in college students 21 years & older.
