A case conceptualization approach which leads to a range of strategies & techniques that can be used in cognitive therapy is discussed. The assessment & testing of dysfunctional thinking is reviewed. 20 cognitive techniques that are useful in developing adaptive responses to dysfunctional thinking are described. Some of these techniques include: understanding of idiosyncratic meaning; decatastrophizing; guided association discovery; cognitive rehearsal; & development of cognitive dissonance.
