The first meeting of the IASP Task Force on Euthanasia & Assisted Suicide took place in June 1995. This article summarizes presentations that were given on current legislation & pressures for change in: Canada & the USA, Australia, Britain & Ireland, the Nordic states, with an emphasis on the situation in Sweden, Germany, Austria, & Switzerland. The Dutch film, “Death on Request”, was viewed & discussed. The importance of gender studies in both euthanasia & assisted suicide was raised.
