The effects of media coverage on suicidal behaviours are discussed. There have been methodological problems in previous studies of this subject, therefore research has yielded contradictory results. Despite inconclusive results in statistical studies, case studies seem to demonstrate modelling behaviour. German & British television programs are used as examples. Hawton makes some brief recommendations on how the media should cover suicide. (9 refs.)
