This brief article discusses the problem of youth suicide in Australia & the lack of adequate team-based approaches in the community for dealing with this & other youth problems. The Australian Medical Association has proposed the establishment of a National Suicide Prevention Centre to act as a reference centre & engage in a co-ordinated national intervention strategy. The Australian Medical Association’s position statement on youth suicide is also presented. (2 refs.)
