114 physicians in New York returned a mailed questionnaire which sought to determine if sociodemographic & practice-related variables are predictive of their attitudes toward suicide. Gender was found to be a significant predictor for 3 of 10 attitude items. Medical speciality, clinical & epidemiological knowledge of depression & suicide, & physician age significantly predicted one attitude item. More research is called for to explore determinants of physicians’ attitudes toward suicide.
