A case-control analysis compared suicides with deaths from natural causes for 1990-92. Data for men & women aged 16-64 were analyzed separately. For men & women, occupations with access to means had much higher risks than other professions. Being widowed/divorced was a risk factor, as was being single for men aged 45 & over & women of all ages. Country of birth was significantly related to suicide risk. Community characteristics were also important correlates of relative suicide risk. (10 refs.)
