The case of a 27-year-old man who committed suicide approximately 2 years after he received a diagnosis of AIDS is presented. The patient had no previous psychiatric history. The author recommends that psychological assessment of a patient’s risk for depression & suicide should become part of the routine visit for patients who are HIV-positive or who have AIDS. (19 refs.)
