Survivors of Suicide: Understanding and Coping With the Legacy of Self-Inflicted Death (IN: Youth Suicide: Issues, Assessment, and Intervention, edited by P Cimbolic & D A Jobes)
Zinner E S
This chapter opens with an exploration of the nature of suicide bereavement. Studies which have found that suicide bereavement is not significantly different from bereavement from other sudden deaths are reviewed. However, there are unique features of suicide bereavement & these are also reviewed. Emotional & behavioural responses to suicide, e.g. blaming, searching for meaning, are described. The last part of this chapter discusses postvention strategies for suicide survivors. (48 refs.)
