Hayes L M
This article discusses the use of inmate observation aides in American jails. These aides are trained to monitor inmatesidentified as potential suicide risks, & to recognize the warning signs of suicidal behaviour in other inmates. Examples of how these programs have or have not worked are provided. The ethical & liability issues associated with the use of these aides are also reviewed. (9 refs.)
