Factors in Evaluating Mental Health Risk and Interventions Among Native Youth
Mohatt G V~~Bullis D
This paper discusses the sociological factors involved in native youth suicide. Two types of intervention (treating individual pathology & preventing exposure to stressors) are criticized because they are based on a linear model of social change & psychological problems. A network-community building process is an alternative intervention strategy that develops resource synergism by involving all elements of the community rather than just the institutions & the professionals.
