Abstract
Toward an Interactional Model of Suicidal Behaviors: Cognitive Rigidity, Attributional Style, Stress, Hopelessness, and Depression
Rickelman B L~~Houfek J F
Major theoretical models & research findings on the interaction of selected cognitive factors, e.g. cognitive rigidity, attributional style, stress, hopelessness, & depression, are explored. Two models are synthesized toward the prediction of suicidal behaviours: a cognitive rigidity/stress-diathesis-hopelessness model, & a pluralistic, interactional model. Nursing prevention & intervention strategies from a cognitive therapy framework are discussed, as are implications for nursing research.
