Chaos & complexity theory can help counsellors to assist clients in new & unique ways. This theory does not need to replace other theories but can provide an alternative view. Using chaos theory requires a reevaluation of a counsellor’s assumptions about the world. This article uses the case study of a 21-year-old white female presenting with depression & suicidal ideation to illustrate how counsellors can use this theory in their work. (24 refs.)
