This policy paper examines the role that Distress Centres in Ontario have fulfilled since 1965 & notes that they are well-positioned to continued to provide comprehensive crisis intervention & prevention services at the community level. It describes Distress Centre services & outlines their role in a Community Crisis Response System. The cause & response to crisis, crisis intervention theory, & the dangers & opportunities associated with crisis are examined.
