Showalter says that “this book brings a fresh & pertinent perspective to the view of psychiatric patients.” The book is divided into 3 sections. The first explores patient & clinician beliefs about suicide & has some self-assessment tasks. Section 2 critically reviews standard approaches to suicidality & contrasts these to recommended intervention & management strategies. Section 3 examines problems such as the repetitiously suicidal patient. This book is highly recommended by the reviewer.
