Attitudes toward suicide in a sample of 196 Canadian English-speaking urban adults were studied. Participants in 6 major cities answered the Suicide Opinion Questionnaire. Results are discussed along 10 major dimensions: the stigma of suicide, normality, right to die, acceptability, cry for help, mental illness, religion, antecedents, impulsivity & incidence. Although some modal responses were obtained, the variability expressed has a number of implications for responding to suicide in Canada.
