Charts of 54 adolescent & 102 adult inpatients with diagnosis of adjustment disorder at admission were compared with charts of matched subjects given other admission diagnosis. This study explored subtyping, demographic variables, suicidality, diagnostic stability, a 2-year rehospitalization outcome. Results are reported. Conclusions: adjustment disorder diagnoses were associated with suicidality, shorter lengths of stay, &, in adults, more substance abuse disorders & fewer rehospitalizations.
