This article reports on a retrospective study of 165 suicide attempters who had been hospitalized between 1971 & 1980 in an adolescent psychiatric unit in Paris. 3 aspects of patient outcome were investigated: compliance with postdischarge treatment; repeated suicide attempts; & psychological functioning of the former patients. Follow-up time lapse ranged from 7 to 17 years. Of the 127 subjects that were traced, 39 had made at least one further attempt & 5 had committed suicide. (32 Refs.)
