This article notes the author’s challenge in becoming Executive Director, American Association of Suicidology: to wed research to practice. It also draws a parallel between the dentist’s lecture on flossing & suicide prevention efforts, noting there is little data to indicate education has affected behavioural change. An outline for a 1-hour talk to students, reflections on presentations to an Ohio community (4 recent teen suicides), & reform of the USA health care industry are also discussed.
