This article discusses suicide prevention in light of healthcare service evaluations & notes that evaluation criteria seems to ignore the importance of one-to-one clinical procedures. It also discusses cantagion in a closed institutionalized atmosphere, nomenclature & classification, the change in emphasis from hospital care to community care, & the value of long-term inpatient care with a perspective on the UK experience. An early intervention study underway in deliberate self-harm is outlined.
