Because group life is crucial to adolescent development, this chapter considers group psychotherapy a treatment of choice for teenagers. It discusses planning & management of groups (physical setting, therapist characteristics, referral systems, & inclusion criteria), therapeutic factors necessary for group work, screening factors, & special problems. Group therapy is presented as an underutilized, practical, cost-effective treatment method. Direction for future research is discussed. (24 Refs.)
