Enhancing Outpatient Treatment Compliance: a Multifamily Psychoeducational Intake Group (IN: Treatment Approaches With Suicidal Adolescents, edited by J K Zimmerman & G M Asnis)

Adolescent suicide attempters & their families are frequently noncompliant with outpatient treatment. This chapter reviews studies that have identified & attempted to overcome this problem. It reports on the implementation of a multifamily psychoeducational intake group, describes the orientation group, & provides some results achieved by this group. Clinical examples illustrate the process that typically occurred in the group. Guidelines for group leadership are also outlined. (41 Refs.)
