This article discusses the suicide of Dr. J. Raphael Boutin, age 82, who made his death public by sending a letter entitled “Final Message” to French-language daily newspapers throughout Quebec. Dr. Boutin was apparently worried that his declining health would soon make him a burden for his family & society. In his letter he discusses a person’s right to decide when to end their life. An English translation of the letter is provided.
