School-Based Assessment and Crisis Intervention With Kindergarten Children Following the New York World Trade Center Bombing

A model of tripartite crisis assessment is presented that emphasizes the interacting influences of the crisis situation itself, factors intrinsic to the individual & factors in the support system. A school-based crisis intervention plan emphasizes both immediate & follow-up activities & targeting the various individuals affected by the crisis event. The situation of 17 kindergarten children trapped in an elevator after the bombing of the World Trade Center in New York is used as illustration.
