The ability of the Young Adult Self-Report, the Symptom Checklist & the General Health Questionnaire to predict maladjustment was assessed in a sample of 528 18-22 year olds over a 2-year period. The need for professional services was predicted by the total problem scores of the 3 scales & the internalizing scale of the Young Adult Self-Report which also predicted suicide attempts or suicidal ideation. Findings support the validity of this scale in assessing the psychopathology of young adults.
