This article notes that despite many efforts, the major goal of significantly reducing childhood injuries in the USA remains unattained. Injuries are the leading cause of death in children. Advice from primary care physicians has a positive effect in creating safer environments. The article discusses general principles of effective intervention strategies, the most serious injury categories, & practical injury prevention advice for primary care physicians. (42 Refs.)_
