This report describes the case of an anesthesiologist. It is noteworthy because health care workers may use their medical training in attempts to end their own lives. 2 other cases of suicide attempt by this method involved a physician & a pharmacist. No precise quantity of air can be specified as a lethal dose in venous air embolism. Common difficulties involved in the psychiatric treatment of impaired physicians are outlined. Alcoholism & suicide rates for male/female physicians are reported.
