This paper focuses on the nurse’s role in caring for adolescents who have overdosed. Information is provided on how to create the right atmosphere for the patient & techniques for active communication. Some of the factors which may limit the nurse fulfilling the role described in this paper are also discussed. Examples of these limiting factors are the nurse who feels that overdose patients should be punished or the nurse who is struggling with her own suicidal feelings. (23 refs.)
