Epidemiological Aspects of Attempted Suicide in Gent, Belgium 1986 – 1990 (IN: Attempted Suicide in Europe: Findings From the Multicentre Study on Parasuicide…, edited by A J F M Kerkhof et al)

This chapter reports on a case control study of 508 attempted suicide patients referred to a hospital & a control group of 1608 residents. This data were provided at the conference in The Netherlands when WHO/EURO study results were released. The epidemiological approach & multivariate logistic regression used, proved useful in calculating the strength of associations between attempted suicide & sociodemographic or socioeconomic characteristics. Findings & methodological issues are discussed.
