Parasuicide in Stockholm, Sweden 1989 – 1991 (IN: Attempted Suicide in Europe: Findings from the Multicentre Study on Parasuicide…, edited by A J F M Kerkhof et al)

This chapter provides an epidemiology of parasuicides in the Stockholm area. 1989 data reflects 501 patients & 571 events. Over the 3-year period, rates decreased for both men & women. Rates were higher among women than men in every age group. Young women (15-24) had markedly higher rates than young men for each year. A sharp decrease for women aged 25-34 between 1989 & 1991 is noteworthy. In addition to using the WHO/EURO questionnaire, variables relevant to suicidal behavior were monitored.
