This chapter presents the epidemiology of parasuicide in a southern region of Germany. It notes that between 1960 & 1978, rates for males aged 15-19 increased about 300%. Over the 4-year period of the WHO/EURO study, the rates for most younger male age groups decreased while rates for females increased. The data reflects 594 parasuicidal events by 536 persons. The findings also confirm the detrimental effect of certain sociodemographic or socioeconomic conditions on the occurance of parasuicide.
