The author of this book review highly recommends this comprehensive book, written by many top suicidologists, for mental health professionals & all those concerned with the contemporary problem of elderly suicide. He provides some comparative data for the elderly over 65. USA: 12% of the population, 20% of all suicides. Japan: 13% & 27% respectively. In the reviewer’s opinion, defeatism, the belief that it is not worthwhile helping the suicidal elderly, is the biggest obstacle to overcome.
