The focus for hospice is on life & the alleviation of suffering. The author argues that hospice must make a more assertive response to the proponents of assisted suicide. He outlines how this may be done by: challenging notions of uncontrollable pain; educating people to the potential for growth at the end of life; & addressing the questions of dignity & value at the end of life.
