The author asks if Americans should follow The Netherlands’ lead in legislation regarding assisted suicide. He presents 2 questions that he says must be addressed before any decisions are made: 1) does an individual have the right to end their life, & 2) should society remain aloof from this decision or should policy establish the ground rules? He raises a number of other issues that should be considered in any decision, e.g. should physicians be in charge of the actual death?
