This article defines student depression, describes 4 different types of depression, & details the etiology of this condition. Three scales to assess student depression & suicide potential are reviewed. General intervention techniques are discussed as are interventions specific to poor self-concept, withdrawal, agitated anxiety & self-destructive behaviours. (10 refs.)
