No research has been done regarding types of cases which may cause disagreement among psychiatrists making committment decisions. 10 clinical vignettes depicting ambiguous cases were developed & presented to 62 psychiatrists who were asked to determine the committment disposition of each patient. All vignettes which involved suicide represented characteristics from the Sad Persons scale. 7 of the 10 vignettes caused significant disagreement. 4 themes underlying the disagreements are reviewed.
