According to Dr. Isaac Sakinofsky, unemployment is a critical factor in youth suicide. In an epidemiological study of 32 countries, 6 economic variables were evaluated for their relationship to suicide during the period 1969-90. Monetary policies which deliberately raised interest rates to slow down the economy & reduce the rate of inflation caused the loss of jobs & increasing unemployment rates. One result of these policies seems to be an increase in suicide among young people.
