In previous research, Lester found that female birth cohorts in the USA which had a high suicide rate at one point in their lives had a low suicide rate at other points. New data from Denmark for the period 1922-1991 has permitted a test of this finding. Lester’s hypothesis that a positive association for short-time intervals & a negative association for long-time intervals was not supported in the present study of Danish suicide rates. (2 refs.)
