Lester (1989) found that 16 members of a sample of 30 famous suicides had experienced the loss of a significant other in childhood. In the present study, the experience of loss in 24 other famous suicides was examined. 6 of the 24 had experienced loss & a further 8 had experienced disrupted relationships with one or both parents. The median age at loss was 10 years. Latency-age loss appears to be common in the personal histories of suicides. (1 ref.)
