In this statement, the authors outline their beliefs about euthanasia & physician-assisted suicide. They assert that palliative care should be available to all terminally ill patients & that deliberately ending a patient’s life, even at their request, is not part of palliative care nor should it be a part of health care practice. The authors believe the euthanasia & physician-assisted suicide should not be legalized because of the enormous potential for abuse in this setting. (9 refs.)
