In this article, the author describes events preceding her brother’s suicide noting that survivors have an insatiable need to tell their stories. Her brother struggled with a heroin addiction and many relapses. She discusses her initial disbelief; her inner turmoil & reaction to those who offered condolences but avoided discussing the circumstances; the stigma of suicide for the surviving family; the feelings of grief, helplessness, sorrow, anger, shame & guilt; & the healing process.
