This article reports on a 1992 Gallup poll. The poll underscores the need for clergy & mental health workers to collaborate in the delivery of mental health & crisis intervention services to the elderly. Of the 802 respondents, 31% would turn to a clergyman, minister or church if someone they knew were contemplating suicide, 12% a physician, & 15% a hospital, agency or counsellor. Loneliness (31%) & terminal illness (22%) were cited as major reasons an older person might consider suicide.
