This review of the literature focuses on gender issues relevant to psychotherapy with suicidal adults. First, patterns of suicidal ideation & behaviours in women & in men are reviewed. Differences & similarities between women & men in motivations for suicide are then discussed. Finally, gender issues bearing on the initiation & goals of psychological treatment are addressed.
