This paper provides a framework for the discussion of euthanasia & assisted suicide. Among the questions analysed is whether or not the State has the authority to restrict an individual’s choice to be killed on their own terms. A number of concerns are raised about how such a decision could be effectively reached in a society as diverse as Canada. The paper concludes by developing a number of proposals which are intended to clarify key questions in the debate, e.g. who supports death by choice.
