This article discusses suicide in Belgium. The incidence of suicide, risk indicators, methods & comparisons to other European countries are reviewed. Some possible explanations for the increase in Belgium’s suicide rate are offered including: reduced family cohesion, well-established social security legislation, the decline of religion, climate & hereditary factors. The article ends with a brief overview of suicide prevention activities.
