This issue (Autumn 1994) of Let’s Talk contains an article which discusses a study done by the Correctional Service of Canada on inmate suicides which occurred from 1992-1994. The report discusses possible motivating factors, e.g. concerns about parole decisions. Measures to minimize inmate suicide are recommended including improved communication among staff about prisoners at risk & control of the drug trade since substance abuse is often a factor in suicide.
